The Mid North Coast Cross Country , Coffs Creek walkway, 7 April 2013
Jason Smit and Kylie Marle posted the first wins of this season’s Mid North Coast Cross Countries as they led in the male and female 10kms runners. With the Coffs Creek walkway course slightly abbreviated due to the saturated nature of part of the grassed area the times for both the 10kms and 5kms were quite flattering. Smit covered what was more likely a 9.2kms in a brisk 36.46 with Brett Hoffman and Paul Sheringham also under 40 minutes in picking up the minor placings.
Marle enjoyed a comfortable buffer over an experienced ladies’ field with the youngest of those in pursuit, Fiona Bagley taking second, well clear of third placed Tina Thompson.
The 5kms saw young guns Luke Tarrant and Karlie Swanson take the honours, Tarrant by 20 seconds from another young runner on the rise, Jacob Wilson, while outstanding local triathlete Jacinta Smithers was runner-up for the females. Third spot for the males went to Matthew Berrington whose most recent training has been centred on endurance adventure racing. Alina Hill ducked under 20 minutes to fill third spot for the females.
The 2kms was a Gusman ‘benefit’ with Jordan setting a cracking pace to win from younger sibling, Jonny. Third male a mere 7 seconds behind the younger Gusman was Benjamin Burridge.
Charlotte Williams began this season as she finished last season with a win in the female section but again it was only 7 seconds later that second placed Ashley Van Den Boogaard crossed the line. There was the same margin to Chloe Bulloch in third.
