Coffs Coast Athletics Home ground – Sawtell
It was a case of racing the rain and dodging the puddles as runners took to the Lakeside, Woolgoolga, course for the Mid North Coast Cross Countries on Sunday.
Standout efforts included Jyii Mann leading in the males and Jess Deans the females in the 2kms before both backed up to finish second and first respectively in the 5 kms. Tim Martin was only six seconds adrift of Mann in the 2kms while comfortably clear of third male, Sheldon Koopmans.
New names came to the fore in the 2kms minor female placings with Meredith Bowles taking second a scant three seconds ahead of Alana Wardman.
Mitchell Karrasch led in the 5kms field with newcomer, Anthony Hulbert following Mann in to take third.
Fiona Bagley claimed the runner-up spot in the female 5kms, well clear of Anthea Hulbert.
In the slightly over-distance 10kms it was the ‘old firm’ of Luke Tarrant and Karlie Swanson well clear in their respective genders. Nick Murray held off Bruce Meder to claim runner-up status for the men while Tina Thompson was chased home by Janie Mahoney for that position in the women’s race.
