MNC Cross Country Heritage Park Road, Sunday 5 June 2016
It was a day for the ‘true believers’ on Sunday when the Mid North Cross Country took to the roads of Heritage Park. After the wild weather of Saturday many could be forgiven for not lining up for a run on Sunday. However the conditions improved to the extent that not only did over 70 runners turn up but many posted very fast times.
Mitchell Karrasch started the ball rolling as he led in the 2kms in 6.50,hotly pursued by Daniel Williams and William Gromadski. The first young lady, Olissa Onley, was next best , seven seconds ahead of Cloe Nolan with Georgia Kuchel a further eleven seconds back, in third.
Luke Tarrant followed his win over 10kms last week with an all-the-way victory in the 5kms in 17.52. Jonny Gusman, Jyii Mann and Mitchell Karrasch all benefited from having a ‘rabbit’ to chase, finishing under 20 minutes. First female, Jess Deans, also went under 20 minutes. Kate Murray and Michelle Versluys filled the minors.
The 10kms was something of a Karlie Swanson ‘clinic’ as she strode away from the rest of the field to record 37.18. Ed Brazier was the first male in 39.21, comfortably ahead of Nick Murray who won a tight contest for the runner-up position from Mark Garner and Rodney Koopmans. Jan Rooney ran strongly to fill second spot for the ladies while the ever consistent Tina Thompson crossed in third.
