Coffs Coast Athletics Home ground – Sawtell
Another double victory to Jess Deans in the 2 and 5 kilometres events was a feature of the day’s racing in the Mid North Coast Cross Countries at Sawtell. Jyii Mann and Harrison Colyer again fought out the finish of the 2 kms with both recording 7.29 for the beach and bush course. Tim Martin claimed third spot 25 seconds later.
Olissa Onley and Elke Bowles rounded out the podium for the female 2 kms behind Deans.
The Koopmans family made it a double with Isaiah blitzing the 5 kms and Rodney leading in the men in the 10 kms. The Burridge twins, Ben and Tom, filled second and third in the 5 kms while Fiona Bagley and Heather Kitching did likewise for the females.
Despite some confusion about the turn-around on Boambee beach one of the biggest fields for the 10kms had to follow the familiar figure of Karlie Swanson to the finish. Newcomer Chris Stevens was able to overhaul Nick Murray to claim the runner-up position for the men. Triathletes, Jan Rooney and Kate Marsden, got their money’s worth from the full course placing second and third behind the run-away Swanson in the women’s race.
Special mention should be accorded 80 year old Tom Holbut who completed the 10kms after marking a large section of the course earlier in the morning.
