Parents/Guardians Role

Because Little Athletics is a totally voluntary organisation, centres cannot operate without the assistance of parents each week in fulfilling the many and varied duties required. These include managing an age group; recording results, helping setup and pack up to name just a few.

It is compulsory that at least one parent/adult guardian is present at Toormina Oval at all times whilst their children are there. There are no exceptions to this rule – it is a condition of registration with COFFS COAST LITTLE ATHLETICS CLUB.

Additional assistance is always required on the centre committees and all parents are encouraged to become involved. Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents can become fully involved in their child’s sporting interests.

At Little Athletics NSW we understand that just like our athletes, our parents come from a diverse range of backgrounds and as such have different talents and experience. There is a place for everyone at Little Athletics and there are a number of ways that you can become involved. You may have skills that the centre doesn’t even know they need. So if you think you can help with something, let the committee know.

Whatever your experience, don’t feel scared about putting your hand up and ‘giving it a go’. After all, isn’t that what we ask our kids to do?

Parents Attendance on Thursday is always required:

Parents are always required to help with running the night. The Age Managers are not required to look after the whole group by themselves. They are the co-ordinators of the group, but raking sand pits, marking throws and measuring distances, etc requires help from others. They cannot do it by themselves. And they are certainly not there to control misbehaving children. In addition, Little Athletics is NOT a baby-sitting service and if it is noted that athletes are consistently without a parent/guardian present they will be asked to leave. We understand that there may be times where you cannot be there, or you are watching another child in a different age group, but it is only fair that the workload be spread around as evenly as possible.
