North Coast Road Championships – 21 June 2015 – Corindi

Reece Edwards and Leah Fitzgerald had runaway wins in the North Coast 15kms Road Running Championship on Sunday on the roads of Corindi. Edwards, home for a week from studies in Canberra, posted one of the fastest ever times for the out-and-back course as he strode away from the rest of the field to record 51.18. There was some strong running behind him from Masters runners, Geoff McCann, 49 and Philip Viles , 51, who were the second and third males. However the third finisher was the indomitable Leah Fitzgerald whose 59.48 gave her a commanding win over Corindi local Lisa Williams and Grace Edwards. Once again the long run saw more ladies than men take up the challenge.

The 5kms titles went to Woolgoolga Athletic Club’s Isaiah Koopmans and Karlie Swanson. Koopmans showed that he is ready to take on the Canadians as he heads over there on a running tour. Swanson gave her rivals something to chase as she prepares to take on the best the Gold Coast can attract over 10kms in a fortnight. Second place went to Jess Deans with Chloe Bulloch  just holding off her mum, Melissa, to claim third.  As a bonus, both girls secured age titles. Second in the 5kms and having no problem winning his age division was the outstanding 13 year old Ben Burridge. Third spot went to Corindi local, Jonny Gusman .

The 2kms event saw Cameron Burns lead in the boys while Jess Deans backed up to do likewise for the girls. However it was Elke Bowles in second who claimed the Under 10 title. Johanna Kuchel held off Abbi Dagger by 5 seconds to take third spot. Max Iggulden also claimed an Under 10 title as he finished second.  Tom Ylinen was a clear third across the finish.

Coffs Coast Little Athletics claimed seven age titles to host club, Woolgoolga’s four.
