Luke Tarrant came home from his studies in Canberra to give a ‘master’ class in the 5kms on the roads of Heritage Park on Sunday. Not to be outdone , Isaiah Koopmans and Karlie Swanson were equally dominant in the 10kms.
In ideal running conditions the morning started with Tim Martin and Tara Everson leading in their respective genders in the 2kms . Martin prevailed by a scant 6 seconds over Mitchell Karrasch with Jacob Thorn a comfortable third place. Everson was 15 seconds clear of Cloe Nolan with Gabby Sullivan a further 8 seconds behind in third.
Tarrant led from the ‘get-go’ in the 5kms finishing 1min 44secs ahead of Jonny Gusman with Terry Garrett claiming third 57 seconds later. Of note among the male field was the run by 7 year old Daniel Williams whose time of 22.43 was recorded after running 7.58 in the 2kms. Olissa Onley ran to the finish of the 5kms well clear of Chloe Bulloch and third-placed Sarah Morgan.
The 10kms saw a repeat of the Forest Footrace result with Koopmans dominant in the male section and Swanson crossing the finish second outright to dominate the females. Their times of 37.03 and 38.27 respectively a clear indication of their class. Phil Viles was a clear runner-up while Neil Griffen held off Craig Hundle by 8 seconds for third. Runner-up for the ladies was Grace Edwards with Tina Thompson rounding out the podium. However Thompson picked up enough points in the event to retain the McKean Family Series title.
The Warren Partland Series winner also is a repeat of last year with Rodney Koopmans finishing one point ahead of friendly rival, Ed Brazier. Isaiah Koopmans’ win saw him claim third spot in the Series after winning two of the three races.
