New King and Queen of Mt Coramba
Sunday saw the crowning of a new King and young Queen on the 9.5km course at Mt Coramba.
King Ed Brazier has carried on his winning form from the Waterworld Great Ocean run in March. Brazier was the only runner to break the 30 minutes to the summit in a time of 29:41, with his descent being second fastest of the day in 17:10; his overall time being 46:51. Terry Garrett chased hard to take second place in 48:30 and Rodney Koopmans picked up third by rocketing down with the fastest descent of the day in 16:41 and an overall time of 50:36.
Queen Jess Deans having just celebrated her 12th birthday showed that she is a force to be reckoned with. Surprising though, she is not the youngest Queen – that honour goes to Bonnie Hancock aged 9 (when she drew with her sister Courtney aged 11) in 1999. Deans was the 6th runner to the summit and over three minutes clear of the second female Tina Thompson. Deans overall time was 57:36, Thompson caught up some time on the descent finishing second in 59:56 and Eszter Hortobagyl taking out third place in 61:36.
In the supporting 2km male run Harrison Colyer just prevailed over Tim Martin, both recording 7:51 with Daniel Williams taking third place in 8:44. First place in the females went to Kate Murray (with her first run on the season) in 9.42, followed by Johanna Kuchel second in 10:16 and Zara Temesi third in 10:18.
The 4km run male winner was Isiah Koopmans in 16:14, second Ben Burridge in 16:52 and Mitchell Karrasch third in 17:29. Chloe Bulloch had a narrow win in the ladies division recording 18:43, just ahead of Tara Everson in 18:44 and third Jess Deans in 22:02 backing up from the main run.
