MNC Cross Country – 03 May 2015 – Diggers Beach

The headlands bordering Diggers Beach always test the resolve of all runners but this year the saturated sections posed extra challenges for everyone right across the age divisions in all three distances. Showing how to deal with the situation best were the first runners in the 2 kms, Tom Neal , Harrison Colyer and Hugh Churchwell with the young ladies being led in by Tara Everson, Cloe Nolan and Savannah Sproule not far behind the boys. The 2kms field with 125 finishers was the biggest so far this cross country season.

This was especially pleasing as all proceeds from the day are going to assist the Guy family whose youngest, Eve, is undergoing treatment in Sydney. People were very generous on the day with many contributing well above their usual entry money.

The 5 and 10 kms also saw extra numbers line up but the 5kms remains the Koopmans/Swanson show with Isaiah and Karlie again leading in their respective genders. Paul Gromadzki kept Koopmans honest filling second spot thirteen seconds adrift with perennial place-getter, Mitchell Karrasch, only ten seconds later in third. Jess Deans and Chloe Bulloch were impressive in rounding out the podium for the females.

The 10kms was taken out by a newcomer, Neil Griffen, a scant six seconds ahead of Glen Price with Craig Wirth also under 43 minutes in third.

Tracy Austin led in Wendy Lord-Smith to claim the women’s victory.

Next week the Mid North Coast Series takes a break but the runners don’t as the Woolgoolga Fun Runs, The Forest Footrace on the Saturday at 3.00 pm and the Seaside Scamper, Beach Bash and Tiny Tot Trot on Sunday starting at 8.00am, provide plenty of opportunity for everyone to get their endorphin ‘fix’ for the week.
