MNC CROSS COUNTRY – BOTANIC GARDENS 13 APRIL 2014. The Coffs Creek walkway course saw a fusion of experienced runners and first timers at the Mid North Coast Cross Country’s first round. The popular 2 kms event started proceedings with Tim Martin leading the 85 strong field to the finish in fine style almost thirty seconds ahead of Jonny Gusman with Thomas Burridge, just edging out Harrison Colyer, thirty seconds later for third. First girl in the 2 kms was Olissa Onley , 18 seconds ahead of Kate Murray with another 12 seconds back to Fiona Martin in third.
Youth prevailed in the 5 kms with Isaiah Koopmans leading in the men and Jess Deans crossing first for the ladies. The husband and wife combo of Terry and Isabel Garrett filled the runners-up spots with Nick Murray and Jane Wilson rounding out the podium.
The 10 kms served a double purpose as it was also the second round of the Partland/McKean Series. Maximum points went to Jordan Gusman in a slick 36.07 with Paul Woodhouse the only other runner to break 40 minutes on the fairly flat but technical out-and-back course. The battle for third in the men went to Nigel Cotsell from defending Partland Series winner, Jason Smit, and Craig Wirth. Jess Dougherty added the 10kms victory to her double wins at Woolgoolga last weekend. Newcomer Ella-Rose Kosick was second with reigning Queen of the Mountain, Grace Edwards, third.
With The Partland/McKean Series requiring runners to contest at least two of the three rounds Jordan Gusman has a narrow lead over Paul Woodhouse and Rodney Koopmans, 13 points to 12. Jess Dougherty likewise holds a one point advantage over Ella-Rose Kosick and Tina Thompson, 10 points to 9. The third round will be held on the roads of Heritage Park on 10th August.
The next races in the Mid North Coast Series will be at Woolgoolga Lakeside next Sunday with the 2 kms starting at 9.00am.
